VITAMINS A & D
Just to keep things simple, Vitamin A was the first one discovered. You can guess, then, that Vitamin D was the fourth! But what are they good for?

The nutritional demands of the active person are not that different from the sedentary person, except in quantity. We all need vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
That isn't the question. After 5000 plus years of recorded history, the value of the bee can't be questioned. Man has used bee products for everything from warding off evil spells to healing wounds; anti-aging creams to lifting depression. Beeswax candles give clear, clean light and there's few things more satisfying than the feel and taste of golden honey on the tongue.
The symptoms of acid reflux, or heartburn, can be so severe for some that they are sometimes mistaken for a heart attack. As many as 60 million Americans suffer from it each month, but there are some all-natural ways to eliminate the problem without over-the-counter or prescription medications.
Common food triggers include chocolate, orange juice, coffee, tomato-based sauces, wine and high-fat foods. Therefore, eliminating reflux-causing foods and cutting back on portion sizes can help reduce the occurrence of heartburn. Eating slowly can help, too.

Three Important Steps: Coffee Enemas, Diet and Supplements
Gerson Therapy is a truly nutritional treatment for cancer as well as for other metabolic diseases. It has three equally important steps that have to be performed simultaneously. The first is the detoxification by coffee enemas. The second is the Gerson Diet that supplies the essential nutrients including enzymes from 13 glasses daily of fresh vegetable and fruit juice. In fact Gerson Therapy is a natural enzyme therapy in which probably more than thousands of enzymes are supplied from natural sources compared to the conventional enzyme therapy in which only limited types of enzymes are used. The third is the supplement of deficient nutrients, particularly potassium, iodine, and thyroid hormones. Other supplements include niacin, pancreatin, flaxseed oil, castor oil, coenzyme Q10, Wobe-Mugos enzyme products, laetrile, crude liver or vitamin B12 injection, and gastrointestinal enzyme products. The aim of the therapy is to restore the diseased cells in the body back to normal, and the outcome is the restoration of a healthy body and the disappearance of all of the metabolic problems, such as cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, and others of the modern age.
Aspartame producer Ajinomoto is launching a new initiative that will rebrand the sweetener as “AminoSweet”. Aspartame is used in many foods and beverages marketed as low calorie or sugar-free. However, its reputation has been clouded somewhat by studies that have investigated reports of ill effects.
Just to remind you, the side effects of aspartame can include:
Nobody enjoys pain, but pain is why we seek help when we are sick. If illness didn’t cause “dis-ease” (literally “lack of ease”) we would not be motivated to cure it. Think about it. Would you do anything about your health if pain and other forms of discomfort weren’t present telling you that something was wrong? Unless we are masochists, our natural desire is to be free of suffering.
The federal government advises throwing most unused or expired medications into the trash instead of down the drain, but they can end up in the water anyway, a study from Maine suggests.
Tiny amounts of discarded drugs have been found in water at three landfills in the state, confirming suspicions that pharmaceuticals thrown into household trash are ending up in water that drains through waste, according to a survey by the state's environmental agency that's one of only a handful to have looked at the presence of drugs in landfills.
GM foods won’t solve the food crisis
A 2008 World Bank report concluded that increased biofuel production (crops grown for fuel rather than food) is the major cause of the increase in food prices. GM giant Monsanto has been at the heart of the lobbying for biofuels -- while profiting enormously from the resulting food crisis and using it as a PR opportunity to promote GM foods!
GM crops do not increase yield potential
Despite the promises, GM has not increased the yield potential of any commercialized crops. In fact, studies show that the most widely grown GM crop, GM soy, has suffered reduced yields.
Stretch your food budget by picking the best buys in organic produce
The slightly higher price of organic food scares some consumers away. For consumers who are as budget-conscious as they are health-conscious, the Environmental Working Group has developed a "Dirty Dozen" list of 12 foods that are best to buy organic, since the commercial varieties tend to be high in pesticide residues. The best buys are:
The healthiest food often has the least marketing muscle behind it. The Center for Science in the Public Interest recently published a comprehensive report on the subject, a persuasive indictment called "Food Labeling Chaos."
Here are nine of the most common ways food labels lie, so you can prepare before your next trip to the grocery store.
My goal is to help you understand the nervous system better and particularly, to share with you something I figured out a few years ago that had puzzled me for a decade ore more. The dilemma started 20 years ago when some friends of mine formulated some trace mineral supplements mixed with essential oils. NSP marketed these formulas for a while, so if you’ve been with NSP for more than 20 years, you might remember them. They were called Aromin Day and Aromin Nite.
The Day blend contained essential oils that stimulated the sympathetic nervous system and was supposed to be taken in the morning for energy. The Nite blend contained essential oils that stimulated the parasympathetic nervous system and was supposed to be taken in the evening to help you relax. Sounds simple enough doesn’t it?
The problem was that about 10% of the people who took it experienced an opposite reaction. The Nite blend energized them and the Day blend had a calming effect. The problem bugged me for two reasons. One is that I couldn’t figure out why some people were reacting backwards to the products and secondly, I had no way of telling who was going to react in what way.
White typically has greater levels of the toxin than light, researchers say
Tests on more than 300 samples of canned tuna from the top three brands in the United States revealed that more than half contained mercury levels above what's considered safe by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Researchers from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), found that 55 percent of the samples had mercury levels higher than the EPA standard of 0.5 parts per million (ppm) and 5 percent had levels higher than the 1.0 ppm safety level set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for commercially sold fish.
14 cigarettes a day create exposure equal to inhaling nearly 3 more, study finds
In addition to the risks associated with directly inhaling cigarette smoke, smokers also face significant risk from their own secondhand smoke, researchers say.
The finding, published online Jan. 29 in Environmental Health, challenges the widely held belief that the threat posed to smokers by secondhand smoke is negligible.
A list of common culinary triggers
Migraine headaches frequently are characterized by symptoms such as nausea, dull or severe head pain and sensitivity to light.
In some sufferers, certain foods may help trigger migraines. The U.S. National Library of Medicine offers this list:
For dinner tonight, you've planned what you think is a nice, healthful meal for your family: seasoned grilled salmon, asparagus tossed with feta cheese, and prepackaged long-grain wild rice. The salmon is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D. The greens are chock-full of nutrients like vitamins A and K and folate. The rice has iron and vitamin B.
But there is also something lurking there you hadn't banked on, thanks mainly to the seasoning, cheese and rice: nearly 1,600 milligrams of sodium, or almost 70 percent of the maximum daily allowance.
Sodium, it turns out, is hidden almost everywhere, and most Americans are getting far too much of it, raising their risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. Although salt is not the sole culprit, one in three Americans has high blood pressure and the number of deaths from hypertension rose by 48 percent from 1996 to 2006, according to the American Heart Association.
A January study in the Journal of Medicine found that if the general U.S. population cut its daily sodium intake by about 3 grams, or half a teaspoon, it could save 44,000 to 92,000 lives a year and cut annual health care costs by $10 billion to $24 billion.
by Greg, the Green Cupid
Hi, I'm Greg, the green cupid. Because it's Valentine's Day, I'm overworked. My little wings are getting tired flying from house to house trying to help the many couples who have intimate problems. So, since I just can't get to everyone, Steven let me write this article, so the couples I can't get to will get some of the help they need. I'm a green cupid because I don't shoot my "clients" with arrows to set romantic sparks flying. Instead, I give them green herbs to make them see those red hearts!
Sex can be a sensitive subject for some and if it is for you, then perhaps you should just delete this email. Then you won't have be offended by my slightly suggestive "puns." And, don't go blaming Steven for the contents of this article, he'd turn red instead of green if he had to write about this stuff.
Couples should consider sleeping apart for the good of their health and relationship, say experts.
One study found that, on average, couples suffered 50 percent more sleep disturbances if they shared a bed.
A study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that over 20 percent of teenagers in the U.S. have elevated cholesterol levels. The national study covered more than 3,000 teens whose blood test results were collected by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
High levels of LDL or triglycerides, and low HDL levels were associated with weight, and the heavier the teenagers were, the more likely they were to have abnormal levels (nearly 43% if they were obese), but even among those with normal body weight over 14% had unhealthy levels.
